With its fresh and spicy, camphor-like notes that are also reminiscent of lemon and eucalyptus, with a sharp and bitter tone, cardamom has rightly been called the queen of spices. Its queenly status is also reflected in the price, which puts it in the ”top five” of the spices. One reason for this is the fact that the fruit capsules have to be picked by hand shortly before they ripen to avoid losing the valuable seeds when the capsules open. Tincture of cardamom is a traditional herbal medicinal product used to treat digestive disorders. The essential oil of cardamom mainly contains -terpinyl acetate and 1,8-cineole as well as -terpineol, linalyl acetate, linalool, nerol and sabinene. Cardamom, which originally came from South India and Sri Lanka, is now cultivated in many other tropical countries. Guatemala is one of the world’s main suppliers and is also the source of the select organic fruit we used for our spirit with the above flavours – perfectly blended in alcohol. We recommend using it in Asian and Arabic cuisine, but also in sweets, pastries and compotes as well as in cocktails. But it tastes particularly delicious in coffee!
