No 715 Kraichgau Forest Bush Rye

Most grain eaux-de-vie are based on conventional rye or wheat. This cereal stopped being a natural plant thousands of years ago, to become a grass modified by humans. We deliberately chose ancient grain varieties as the basis of our eaux-de-vie to give our products a more intense taste. This wild rye is an ancient rye from the Kraichgau region in southwestern Germany, and its name reflects its cultivation in forest clearings. In some areas, it is called St John’s Rye, a reference to its early sowing date around the feast of St John (24th June). Its grains are significantly smaller than ordinary rye grain, but otherwise very similar. Our Korn eau-de-vie made from forest wild rye is significantly stronger than eaux-de-vie made from wheat grain and has a totally individual note.
