No 550 German Chocolate Mint

There are so many mints around the world that it was prophesied in the 9th century that anyone wishing to name all the species would also know how many fish swim in the Red Sea. Therefore, we’ll simplify the subject by just looking at peppermint. The leaves have long been used to treat various ailments, and also as an anticonvulsant. The name peppermint refers to a certain sharpness due to the high menthol content. Together with other components of the essential oil, menthol produces a penetrating, characteristic, pleasant aromatic smell and an equally pleasant, aromatic, camphor-like taste, initially burning, then with a cool aftertaste. This is also true of chocolate mint, which has blackish brown petioles that look very much like chocolate. However, the slightly different composition of the essential oil results in additional chocolate-like aromas, so this spirit gives an overall impression of the famous After Eight chocolate mints. That’s why it goes really well with all desserts (you must try it with ice cream!) or is ideal for adding an unusual touch to meat (game!) and fish dishes and, of course, cocktails. Our favourite option is simple and easy: drunk neat!
