No 485 German Cilantro Seed

This spirit should not be confused with our German cilantro spirit, distilled using the leaves of this herb. Though once you’ve tried the cilantro seed spirit or even better – both – you’ll immediately find it’s impossible to mistake one for the other. Because in the seeds, it is the monoterpenes, such as linalool, -terpinene, -pinene, p-cymene, camphor and geranyl acetate that are dominant in the essential oil, rather than the aldehydes found in the leaves. All these and many other components combine to produce this wonderful natural combination. Linalool, the main component, is responsible for the fresh, floral notes; camphor contributes an aromatic, woody, eucalyptus-like scent and geranyl acetate produces a rose-like aroma. This complexity also makes cilantro seeds interesting for manufacturing gin and, in fact, they are used in almost every gin along with juniper. However, Coriandri fructus – the Latin name in the pharmacopoeia – is capable of even more: it was already used for medical purposes in ancient times. We now know that the seeds have, among other things, anti-bacterial and anti-spasmodic properties and also aid digestion. These characteristics naturally only apply to its correct use as a therapeutic herb. Our distillate uses only the best aromas typical of the variety, perfectly blended in alcohol. It can be used in cocktails and cooking – or anything else the connoisseur deems appropriate.
